Halfway House presents works by Adriana Fabin
HALFWAY HOUSE launch night: Food, Drink, Music & Art
This week Halfway House will present works by
ADRIANA FABIN
Friday 23rd July 2010, 5pm – 10pm
Adriana Fabin, a graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art, is an artist, arts manager and curator. She is from South London and of Ghanaian heritage. She currently divides her time between London and New Orleans, where she is working in collaboration with local artists on the theme of regeneration. Adriana has also done a great deal of commercial art and design work for clients including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Royal Horticultural Society.
Adriana makes art which is about contrast and synthesis. Her work is both delicate and bold; the figuration is highly stylised, the abstract elements are always organic and highly decorative, making use of motifs derived from West African art and craft objects. Her use of bright but earthy colours is striking yet restrained. While her style is fresh, airy and light, it also has great strength and depth.
“I am an instinctive artist so my influences are mostly unconscious and subliminal, although my West African heritage is often in evidence. The starting point is usually an emotion or sensation rather than a concept or idea… ” – Adriana Fabin

Halfway House is a brand new initiative from HOUSE! During the summer a series of open submission events will take place every Friday night in the cafe/gallery. The programme will support emerging artists, curators and critics in the development of their practice by providing them with a public platform from which to share, develop and showcase their work.
Halfway House is a space for showing work in progress as well as for trying out new ideas and initiating conversation. Submissions for performance lectures, live-art, film screenings, ‘hearings’, talks/panels, discussions and other event-based projects are encouraged. Halfway House is a great opportunity to share ideas and collaborative on new work, as well as a space for hosting individually tailored events.
