The Residence gallery celebrates its 5th year anniversary with this flammable awards show and auction, HACKNEY WOOD. Going back to basics, the works will be aptly forged from the symbolic material of WOOD. This primal substance has served ancient cultures with supposed magical powers and protection, and was believed to be the shaper of all things. What does wood mean today? There will be 3 awards: 1. CRITICS CHOICE (Awarded by a professional jury including East-End gallery directors and curators; Snoozie Hexagon, Simon Reuben White (Elevator Gallery), Cathy Lomax (Transition), Alex Chappel, David C. West (Decima Gallery) and The Residence) 2. PEOPLES CHOICE (Voted by the public online and on site at the gallery) 3. ART MARKET FAVOURITE (Highest winning bid in the auction sale.) Throughout the exhibition visitors and collectors are invited to vote and/or place silent auction bids on their favourite pieces both in the gallery and online at www.residence-gallery.com. The winners will be awarded at a triumphant, ceremonial red carpet affair on the 2nd of September! Not to be missed.
