Talks will be held on the first Thursday of each month, and will feature key national and international figures within moving image and digital art. The talks will critically examine issues within moving image practice and theory, and will give audiences an opportunity to engage with some of the most vibrant figures within both the film and arts sectors. Forthcoming speakers include the artistic director of the BFI, Eddie Berg and the director of FACT in Liverpool, Mike Stubbs. We are thrilled that the inaugural monthly talk will be given by filmmakers, Semiconductor. Semiconductor are Brighton-based artists and filmmakers, Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt. For over a decade they have worked with video, sound and digital animation to explore our relationship to scientific knowledge. Following their residency at NASA's Space Sciences Laboratory in California, semiconductor created a remarkable body of work, including the films Magnetic Movie (2007) and Brilliant Noise (2006) which confirmed their reputation as one of the most influential contemporary artist-groups working with moving image. At Lighthouse, Semiconductor will discuss their recent experiences in the Galapagos Islands. Their participation in the Gulbenkian Galapagos Artists' Residency enabled semiconductor to begin a new body of work, entitled Worlds in the Making, which explores the formation of landscape through volcanic activity and mineral formation. The talk marks Semiconductor's last public appearance in Brighton before beginning an Artists Research Fellowship at the Smithsonian later this year. More: http://www.semiconductorfilms.com/
