Journey to Lalibela, Ethiopia

About

Following on from last year's ‘The Seven Poets' Coat's Project', International artist Sally Hampson will create a site-specific installation, ‘Journey to Lalibela, Ethiopia' as part of ‘The Kitty Lake Collection 1904-2001' project. Kitty Lake, anthropologist and explorer, travelled to the Rishmoo Islands, of the North West Pacific in 1927, describing these tiny Islands as her utopia. In 1929 she journeyed to Egypt's Western Desert and the mountains of Sinai, travelling by camel with her Bedouin guide, 1931 found her on the west coast of Ireland. This collection of journals, photographs, film footage and artefacts, creates a visual narrative of her life, a documentary half revealed, giving a glimpse of her journeys, encounters, relationships; a life bought together in a few boxes. Previous installations have been shown at the Pitt Rivers and the Horniman Museums funded by the Arts Council of England and the British Council, Cairo.
