About

Fast Forward is a seminar series devoted to contemporary issues and ideas related to artists' moving image and digital arts co-presented by Lighthouse, Screen Archive South East, Videoclub and Wired Sussex.

For this event, Catherine Elwes will discuss Figuring Landscapes, a curated exhibition of artists' moving image work from Australia and the UK she devised with Steven Ball. Developing out of a knowledge of the political and cultural histories of both countries, Figuring Landscapes addresses questions of ecological survival, post-industrialism, gender, the touristic gaze, and uniquely in Australia, the social, political and cultural status of Indigenous people in a post-colonial society.

Catherine Elwes is Professor of Moving Image Art at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, UK. She is an artist, writer and curator, and author of Video Loupe (KT press, 2000) and Video Art, a guided tour (I.B.Tauris, 2005). She is currently researching Landscape and the Moving Image for Wallflower Press.
