Arms and Wings | an exhibition of works by Oleg Tyrkin

About

Oleg Tyrkin explores the borderline state in between art as a form of spiritual quest, and material existence. His paintings are full of vast space, which is intense, dominant, and vibrant. The objects in his paintings — whether figurative or abstract, as well as social themes, are sublimated to the extent, that they abandon their original meaning. They become part of a ritual, which echoes of archaic ceremonial representations. Like the old Russian icons, Tyrkin's works are paths to the essence of things, and to one's personal spiritual reckoning. But at the same time Tyrkin's works are a form of an intellectualized address at our cultural memory, which is peculiarly contemporary, and worldly. They carry reminiscences of Malevich's deconstructed faces, Tatlin's utopias, and Roublev's serenity. Oleg Tyrkin was born in 1965 in Vladimir, Central Russia. In 1987 — Graduated from the Aviation Institute, with a Diploma of a military helicopter pilot.
