In this beautiful, candid and unflinching series of photographs, award-winning fashion and fine art photographer Jannica Honey allows viewers a glimpse into the personal life of a family and a city, through the perspective of someone who belongs and yet is also an outsider.

Honey left her home town of Stockholm to live in the UK in 1998: STHLM is the result of two years’ worth of journeys back home, of training her camera on the family, friends and urban landscapes she left behind and finding strange, rough-edged new beauty there. The camera captures the private jokes and pains of modern family life, the raw beginnings of sexual intrigue and isolation amid municipal sprawl, gradually revealing the secret stories behind the public veneer of the city. Honey trains her lens with the same reverence on her father’s old, tattoo as she does on the sunset over Stockholm’s historic Old Town.

STHLM continues Honey’s fascination with the semiotics of style, the limits of erotica and acceptability, and her deep interest in people. However, it’s also a deeply personal show; the subjects (both human and architectural) reveal themselves to us as intimately they would do a friend or loved one, and we get the sense a story is being told on both sides of the camera.
