About

Selected work in mixed media on canvas (2007-2010)

We live on a planet where everything has to die and it seems that when one looks around at the society and cultures we live in, everyone is caught up on a treadmill like in a factory.

All religions, spiritual thought, iconography and organised religious institutions only exist because we die. Without death we would have no need to explain the mystery of life. Robert Kyle-Barrett's work explores these ideas - the concepts of impermanence, the human condition and its need to control the environment that we find ourselves within. It explores social structures and the idea of images that create disgust and fear.

His work is simply a reaction to the world, society and culture we all live in. It's about dealing with his own personal mortality, facing fear and realising that we are all struggling to get through life. His work is deeply transformative using symbols and icons that often evoke deep and powerful emotions, speaking of hidden fears and hopeful dreams. Colour shines from the shadows of disturbing images asking us to question our fundamental fears and our right to challenge those institutions which often create them.
