About

Sound Artist, musician and composer Janek Schaefer presents his new mixed media installation ‘National Portrait [the last transmission]', a sound portrait of Britain on 2nd Dec 2009- the day the five analogue TV signals are turned off in Liverpool. Accompanying this work will be: Recorded Delivery, Extended Play [triptych for the children of war and conflict], Vacant Space, Covers, Black Magic and other exhibits from his 20 year career. “Janek Schaefer's first sound-work, Recorded Delivery, remains one of the wittiest and most interesting in the field of Sound-Art. It is elegant, economical and clever, and makes me wish I'd thought of it first. [Brian Eno] Lauded by his critics and contemporaries, Schaefer's solo exhibition appears at a critical point in his career as he establishes gallery-based practice, alongside a major new public art commission, acclaimed live performances, and numerous albums. A new series of sound sculptures, Black Magic, will be shown for the first time in his career.
