About

In December 2009 The Island will hold the exhibition ‘Ghetto Biennale' and will be officially part of the first Biennial of Haiti. On this occasion The Island will display sculptures by Haitian artists who live and work in the slum area of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, location of the Biennial. Following his proposal of being partner of the event in London, Daniele Geminiani, will use his London studio as actual venue of the Biennial. Among the many existing curatorial models of art biennials all over the world, the idea of displacing this exhibition and present it in a location in the Uk, is directly related with the issues that give rise to the Haiti Biennial, such as to overcome the dual isolation of an island and of a ghetto. The show will include works by artists André Eugène, Celeur Jean Hérard, Guyodo and Claude Sentilus.
