THE CARS SERIES - JOYCE JOCELYNE SAUNDERS-DIOP

Joyce Jocelyne Saunders-diop recently graduated with an MA from the University of the Arts London, lives in South London and has works in private collections in the USA, Ireland, London and France. Joyce started exploring the subject of ‘Cars' in the year 2000, feeling that it seemed to be something that had been overlooked by the world of art, despite its importance in the world at large. The show is a quirky endeavour with a comic-book style, exploring the presence of cars in a broad and accessible way. What do cars really mean to us? Is it best to just own a picture, perhaps, not the object itself? Should we prepare for using pay-as-you go cars in the future, or aim to develop hydrogen powered engines, or none at all? Are cars as important as the huge almost billboard-sized artworks seem to ironically imply? Viewers will be invited to note down comments as a complementary adjunct to the exhibition that Joyce is planning to tour after it's initial launch at the Lewisham Arthouse.
