BEARSPACE with RENEWAL, 22 BARDSLEY LANE, GREENWICH SE10

About

Please note that this exhibition will take place at 22 Bardsley Lane in Greenwich SE10 and not at BEARSPACE in Deptford. ‘The desire to lose yourself in worlds often based on artifice or pretence competes with the need to return to your own (fabricated) self’ Roland Barthes: Camera Lucida Bea Denton’s installations tell a story about hope born of the fragile human condition, and our consequent pursuit of faith, however illusive. We live in a society whose newfound religion is self-worship and whose headline news is a celebration of public suffering and testimony. But despite this spiritual poverty it seems that we have a need for hope that is as great as our need to tell stories. The stories are of Confession, The Afterlife, Miracles and Belief. The testimonies of individuals gathered through adverts, online, by post and by word of mouth are transcribed but not altered.
