Zineb Sedira, MiddleSea, 2008. Single screen Video installation Shot on Super 16mm film in 16:9
London-based artist Zineb Sedira has risen to international prominence through her evocative film and photographic works, often featuring the stunning land and seascapes of North Africa and the Mediterranean. Born in Paris to Algerian parents in 1963, Sedira’s work explores themes such as displacement, cross-cultural identity and migration.
This exhibition will present a new, specially-commissioned lightbox installation, as well as two major recent film projects, Saphir, 2006 and MiddleSea, 2008. These lyrical and melancholic works explore dreams of escape and the state of transit, against a backdrop of the sea and maritime travel.
