Feeling through everyday space on fingertips

About

Vyner Street Gallery is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of works by Mara Zoltners in London. Feeling through everyday space on fingertips is an exhibition that looks at the poetics in the transformation of events of the everyday and the process of reanimation of these events into spatial imagery. On view will be a selection of 3D lenticular images and recent photographs. Zoltners works with images in an experimental manner to investigate the imaging of movement in space over time. This exhibition explores the conflation of these elements into three-dimensional volumes of information. The images, seen as volumetric temporalities, take form as three-dimensional lenticular images within which movement over time is experienced spatially. Zoltners uses a process layering sequential imagery using medical 3D visualization software to produce images that offer a way of experiencing and visualizing the gaps known to exist between actions but are not seen and seldom acknowledged. In the case of the Portrait of a Swimmer over Time series, the movements between actions from figure and water and light reflections are made visible in algorithmic form. By investigating space and time in algorithmic three-dimensional form, reconsiderations of lost or hidden areas of a structure are found. The information suggests a rhythmic underlying pulse of an action or event. Through her interdisciplinary practice, Mara Zoltners creates works that take their development by observing daily routine in everyday life. Her practice inter-relates the margins of daily events and historical, cultural, and personal memory. Zoltners works in multi-media installations, drawing, sound, digital photography, video and 3D stereoscopic video. Her work has been screened at the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television, (England), The Weismann Museum (USA), as well as The Walker Art Center (USA) and The Minneapolis Institute of Art (USA). Zoltners has exhibited work at The National Gallery of Albania, Dean Clough Gallery (England), Fargo Museum of Art (USA), and The Alternative Museum (USA). In 1995, Zoltners received the McKnight Foundation Fellowship for Visual Artists (USA), and the Bush Foundation Artist Fellowship in 1998 (USA). Zoltners has been awarded numerous artist residencies, including a 1997 residency at Art in General (USA), and was a participant in Testbed '05 at Leeds Metropolitan Gallery (England) in 2005. The work will be on view from Monday 28th September until Friday 2nd October.
