A - F. New German Sculpture

Precisely because sculpture is often in the shadow of painting, it deserves our special attention. In recent years, the six artists in the exhibition A - F. New German Sculpture have contributed significantly to the development of this genre. The exhibited works move between Abstraction and Figuration (A - F) through to the portrayal of human figures. In these diverse approaches, the permanent flexibility of the vibrant medium of sculpture is revealed.

Berta Fischer?s (*1973) works in coloured acrylic glass allure the viewer with an undefined inner glow, but then razor sharp pinnacles and edges keep him distanced. In his filigree wood sculptures and reliefs, Wolfgang Flad (*1974) creates biomorphic structures, where time becomes infinite until it finally stops. The sculptures by Karsten Konrad (* 1962) are largely composed of used or found materials which he reassembles in urban structures.

Jonathan Meese (*1970) allocates potentates and icons from history, heroes and stars from film and fiction with new, mythologically charged meanings and immortalizes them for future generations in hard bronze. Simon Schubert?s (*1976) sculptures give evidence of his continuing preoccupation with the theme of disappearance; loneliness and isolation are concealed behind opaque hair. In her small scale human depictions Veronika Veit (*1968) deciphers significances in age, uncertainties and poses; she holds a mirror up to all of us.
