We first came aware of Stephanies Carlton Smiths work at her excellent MA degree show at the Royal College of Art.What struck us was both the interesting juxtaposition of materials, and also Stephanie's almost fearless pursuit of symmetry and balance; she seemingly refused to accept the old order regarding the validity of certain materials for artistic purpose. She combines and continues to mix materials associated with high art together with constuction material.
