About

River Taff, Blackweir, Bute Park, Cardiff 23rd May — 26th June 2009 River is a temporary gallery situated in the public realm, which will be showing a month long programme of contemporary, site specific artworks. All works will be located near the bridge at Blackweir although some may be 40/50 metres upstream or downstream. Curated by Sam Aldridge and Paula Morison... Maria Teresa Gavazzi Saturday 23rd May — Friday 29th May 2009 Gavazzi will be holding daily workshops on paper boat making and creating an installation of these around the space. Workshops will run from 11.00 — 16.00 and will be located on the East bank of the river, just next to the bridge at Blackweir. No need to book, just come along! Laurence Payot Friday 29th May — Friday 5th June 2009 Inspired by the theatre, Payot will create a wooden swan installation which will be located just upstream of the Blackweir Bridge and will be visible from the footpath on the East bank of the River as well as from the footbridge. Matt Blackler Friday 5th June — Friday 12th June 2009 Blackler will create a wooden waterwheel and place it in the river. As the water turns the wheel, a dynamo will be powered which will, in turn play a record. The work will be located about 50m downstream from the Blackweir Bridge and will be best viewed from the footpath on the West bank of the River. John Hammersley Friday 19th June 2009 Throughout the week an ‘invitation to dialogue will be displayed at the Blackweir bridge which will culminate on the Friday with Hammersley inhabiting the space, participating in conversation with passers-by. Hammersley will be at Blackweir from 9.00am until 6.00pm on Friday 19th June. Dan Clark Friday 19th June — Friday 26th June Clark will be floating a trunk and two oars in the river, as if a shipwrecked mariner had been rowing to safety. This piece will be located about 50 m downstream and will be best viewed from the footbath on the West bank of the River. Open Empty Spaces is supported by the WARP Group Mentoring Programme at g39
