Did you know Wolverhampton Art Gallery houses one of the best collections of contemporary art in the region?
As part of the Special Collections Scheme, supported by the Contemporary Art Society and funded by the Arts Council, Wolverhampton has been able to acquire 50 new works since 1992.
A selection is shown here alongside more recent additions to the collection, highlighting Wolverhampton’s consistent approach to collecting contemporary art that tackles social and political themes.
The new display of highlights from Wolverhampton's contemporary collection contains an exciting mix of painting, photography and sculpture including the chance to view works by acclaimed photographic artists such as Richard Billingham, Paul Graham, Zineb Sedira and Simon Norfolk, as well as life-size sculptures and drawings by Ana Maria Pacheco, and works by Gillian Wearing and Gilbert and George.
