Exploring sincerity in contemporary film and performance

About

In today's spectacularised media society sincerity has a rather ambiguous status; so what does a contemporary version look like? Focusing on artists working with performance and video this exhibition explores how the value of sincerity is reflected and challenged in contemporary art practice. This group of artists use a mixture of theatrical speech, clichés and absurd gesture to explore a commitment to serious issues such as identity, sexuality, political agency and the role of being an artist. Including works by Katie Davies, Oriana Fox, Kate Hawkins, Laura Kuch, Harold Offeh, Paul Mart and Annie Sprinkle & Elizabeth Stephens the exhibition presents a range of approaches to sincerity, convincing or otherwise, that unsettle relations between performer and audience. The exhibition will be closed on 25 April 2009.
