Host 09: Otherliness

About

As part of The Late Shows Vane is pleased to present 'Host 09: Otherliness', the latest project from Sheffield-based Host Artists Group (HAG). Especially for The Late Shows, HAG have invited 18 artists to create sound works that are imagined, otherly and utterly alien to the gallery setting, to be presented in a traditional gallery space, at once turning HAG's usual practice of curating and producing art in alternative spaces on its head. The selected artists have produced challenging and sonically accomplished work that presents a diverse range of insights on this theme. This presentation offers an opportunity to access the ongoing debate surrounding the gallery setting and its relationship with the wider world beyond its doors.

Artists: Helen Blejerman, Rose Butler, Matt Butt, Michael Cousin, Katie Davies, Michael Day, Lesley Guy, Christopher Hall & Alexander Kelly, Esther Johnson, Tim Lambert, Francisco López, David Morin, Oberphones, Miguel Santos, Richard Sides, Neil Webb, Carl von Weiler, Ron Wright

Please join us for an artists' talk by Matt Butt, Lesley Guy and Neil Webb about the work of HAG at Vane on Friday 15 May, 8-9pm. Places are limited so advance booking is essential, please contact the gallery on events@vane.org.uk or 0191 261 8281

With thanks to Dacs Audio for supplying the sound system.

The events at Vane are free. There are 29 venues taking part in The Late Shows over the two days and a free bus service will be running between venues. Please see www.thelateshows.org.uk for more information or to join the mailing list.

The Late Shows form part of NewcastleGateshead's world-class festivals and events programme developed by culture10 and is funded by Arts Council England, Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council and North East England.
