About

Meteoric Toy is James Johnson-Perkins most comprehensive and ambitious installation of work to date, filling all three exhibition spaces in the gallery. Here he explores notions of childhood experience and western popular culture, using materials and subject matter which have a resonance with his own youth experience such as toy building bricks, 1980s computer graphics and 1980s TV programmes. The exhibition includes an army of toy robots, scrolling message boards and Lego plaques with retro statements, new 1980s inspired films and a dazzling array of animations using 8 bit computer graphics and modernist geometric shapes.
