About

Matthew Usmar Lauder's obliquely romantic paintings present unusually dark and enigmatic narratives. His veiled and layered images are sourced from found photographs and cinema stills.In his new work,Lauder turns his gaze to children's fables, particularly versions retold in the 60's East German TV series 'The Singing Ringing Tree'. His paintings suggest submerged memories and imaginings, interwoven with traces of the everyday.
