A sensory exhibition of art, installation & photography

About

This mixed media exhibition takes you on a sensory exploration through a world in a state of perpetual autumn. Showcasing the unique vision of Shoreditch based graphic artist and illustrator Renaud C. Haslan, The Belfry provides a suitably secretive space within this Grade 1 listed church. Candlelit and filled with sound effects, he layers photography, graphic design, installation and poetry to form a multi-dimensional experience. Haslan's vision is one of texture and ambience, creating a reverence for all things that decline and decay. Signs and symbols of nature's end of year transformation create a sense of the sacred. Within a rich, autumnal colour palate and textural detail, you'll see woodland totems, a tree of keys and images of nature's landscape. Inspired by the effect the elements have on natural materials, he manages to capture and hold up to admiration moments of nature's dissolution; the beauty of lichen on rock, rust on iron, crumbling veins on leaves. Within his artistic hands, all is infused with a sense of melancholy, and sepia photography idolises moments of the past. Adding another layer to the experience is wordsmith and collaborator Joanna Vale. Hand scripted words are woven into the artworks, while story fragments from recorded voices add an element of mystery that feels compelled to be solved. The spirit of autumn is present throughout the exhibition, immersing you in echoes of a lost world.
