About

The Naughton Gallery at Queens is delighted to welcome two local craft makers, Gail Mahon and Stuart Cairns, to give a talk about their work as part of the exhibition Material Subversion and August Craft Month. Gail Mahon is a ceramic artist and maker who has developed a distinct approach to working with clay and uses a variety of approaches to making. The results are often multiple-part arrangements using configurations and assembled objects intended to reflect a relationship to their location and client. Stuart Cairns is a silversmith combining natural materials and found objects alongside precious metals to create artifacts in the tradition of tableware and domestic objects. His practice involves the exploration of materiality through the objects of the everyday, specifically the familiar experiences of dining, the table and domestic objects. Gail will give her talk in the Naughton Gallery at 12 pm followed by Stuart speaking at 12.30 pm in the Old Staff Common Room in the Lanyon Building at Queens.
