Stroud Valleys Artspace (SVA)

SVA was founded in 1997 with the aim of promoting and supporting the artists working in the area. SVA hosts the Site Festival which draws thousands of visitors to Stroud every year. In May 2014 SVA opened its newly refurbished gallery with exhibitions of new work by John Wood and Paul Harrison, Oliver Marsden, Helen Benigson and Lorraine Robbins.

SVA has worked with arts partners such as Darbyshire, White Cube and Caroll Fletcher and Kerlin Gallery to present new contemporary work by internationally significant artists. Exhibitions have included the Darbyshire Award exhibitions (2008-2010); Darren Almond ‘Sometimes Still’ Goods Shed (2012); ‘The Sky Has To Turn Black Before You Can See The Stars’ Siobhan Hapasaka Goods Shed (2013) and ‘10x10’ John Wood and Paul Harrison (2013).

SVA completed the final phase of capital refurbishment of it’s town centre building through £638,000 funding from Arts Council England, Summerfield Trust and Gloucestershire Environmental Trust. This development is enhancing SVA’s visibility and public access through a new street-facing exhibition space, studios and courtyard space. The building has been designed by Tony Fretton Architects, whose back catalogue includes the Camden Art Centre, London; the Lisson Gallery and the British Embassy in Warsaw.
