About

Renowned Finnish photographer C-G Hagström discusses his intimate portraits of author and artist Tove Jansson. Shot over a period of 60 years, these offer an in-depth account of the life and work of this revered writer.

Fox Reading Room show Tove Jansson: Tales from the Nordic Archipelago runs from 15 July to 24 August.

Carl Gustaf Hagström (b.1940, Sweden) started his career as a freelance photographer in the early 1960s, travelling through Europe, Asia, The Soviet Union and the United States for reportage assignments. He became a founding member of the Finnseven Photography Co-operative in 1966. Although most well-known for his portrait photography, his body of work ranges from fashion and architecture to documentary film, book covers and illustrations. His work has been exhibited in Finland and internationally, and he has photographed some of the most central figures in Finnish cultural history.
