43 artists from across east London have been shortlisted for the inaugural East London Painting Prize. One winner will be chosen from the selected group to receive a life changing £10,000 prize and a prominent solo show at East London’s Nunnery Gallery later this year.
The shortlisted artists comprise both established and emerging names from the east London boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Barking & Dagenham and Redbridge. Their work will go on show at Strand East from 20 May to 8 June 2014, and the winner of the prize will be announced on Tuesday 27 May 2014 at 6pm.
The East London Painting Prize has been created by The Legacy List, the charity of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with the Goldhill Family and in association with Bow Arts. The prize honours the life and work of painter and philanthropist, Jack Goldhill and commemorates his major contributions to the east End.
