Jacob’s Ladder – Ashley Fitzgerald and Bol Marjoram

Using Atrium Space as our starting point we liked the idea of using the staircase both as an actual structure and as a metaphor. Clustered around the concept of a staircase are a number of duality's, higher and lower, earth and heaven and light and dark.

In the story Jacob’s Ladder, Jacob dreams of a ladder with angels ascending and descending. The angels may be seen as intermediaries between one world and another. Perhaps it is fanciful to see the artists using the staircase as intermediaries between different realities.

Our work uses the walls as the site of our interventions, dividing them into two distinct zones representing contrasting polarities.
