What, you haven’t got a why! New exhibition in Tenby
Who, what, when, where is the first exhibition of new work to be shown this year at Art Matters, the art gallery in White Lion Street, Tenby.
Responding to the call for work which included one of the W words in its title, invited artists have contributed a rich, diverse and imaginative range of work in all media. Sizes vary from tiny to huge and the subject matter takes the viewer from Welsh cobs to looms, aqueducts to roses.
Examples from the Who category include: ‘The model who wore green slippers’ a paper collage by Glenn Ibbitson; ‘Who is not moved by Nature’s journey?’ an impasto acrylic work by Sue Pomery Wilks; and ‘Who’s fishing in Tenby Harbour?’ a watercolour by Dorian Spencer Davies.
What titles have inspired work by Penny Timmis on the architecture of Coalbrookdale and Andie Clay’s mixed media abstracts inspired by beach stones. ‘What moves my heart...’ is a spring scene by Sue Pomery Wilks
Pieces in the When group include paintings of cob mares in foal by Beatrice Williams, ‘When to part’ a strong abstract painting by Andrew Snary and a very large flower painting by Penny Timmis.
Inevitably the Where category has encouraged a response in landscape. Here is the Lassithi Plateau in Crete, ‘Where bonebreakers soar’ by Glenn Ibbitson, delicate watercolours of Pembrokeshire by David Bellamy, work by Linda Thompson of a corner in Tenby and a tiny oil by Thomas Haskett. Sally Hands and Kath Littler exhibit wood engravings and Carole King (No, not that one...) shows a painting and a construction of a loom, ‘Where shuttles fly’. ‘Where the heart is’ shows one of Beatrice Williams’ warm and welcoming terrace of hillside cottages scenes.
Colin Finn’s fine paintings of Carn Ingli (‘Where angels fly’) and Snowdon in stormy weather, and Mark Morris’ selection of rural, maritime and urban scenes complete the exhibition.
Who, what, when, where is now open and continues until 28th March. The gallery, next to the former cinema in Tenby, is open from 10am to 5pm every day except for Wednesdays and Sundays.
