Public panel discussion featuring Shami Chakrabarti, Matthew Herbert, Owen Jones, John McGrath and Ben Okri

About

Join us to explore and debate this poignant question with high-profile speakers from a range of disciplines including art, science, culture, politics and society. Our panel includes Director of Liberty, Shami Chakrabarti; columnist and author of Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class, Owen Jones, award-winning poet and novelist Ben Okri and musician and creative director of the Radiophonic Workshop, Matthew Herbert. The discussion will be chaired by artistic director of National Theatre Wales John McGrath. This panel discussion poses questions around the possibility of change and transformation through ideas in art, thought, technology and more. Addressing our capacity for change and potential to creatively imagine the future, we look at whether utopian principles can be a catalyst for modelling change in society. This event is part of the BMW Tate Live Thought Workshops series, in which 30 members of the public have developed their own ideas about change over the last 10 months. Following the event join us for a drinks reception in the Starr Foyer from 16.00—17.00.
