Inamorata by Paul Morris
Paul Morris’s work pursues strong themes of obsession in human liaisons. Images are often derived from the artist’s subconscious, exploring the mysterious or tormented dimension of relationships.
“I believe my images can sometimes push religious and ‘tasteful’ boundaries, but it is not my intention to shock but to explore the darker side of love and sexuality.”
The work is largely symbolic in its portrayal, using a variety of found objects/appropriated pieces to demonstrate meaning. Paul elicits the expression of feelings of an intimate relationship from an impudent photograph or an old letter envelope.
Paul has exhibited widely in the last twenty years, including as part of a ‘Young Contemporaries’ exhibition at the Royal College of Art and in solo shows at Riverside Gallery, Richmond, The Gallery, Liverpool and Redgate Gallery in Brixton. Paul is a member of Waltham Forest Arts Club and exhibited in the Leytonstone 2012 Arts Trail. Paul’s history of Petticoat Lane and Brick Lane’s markets titled ‘A toby in the Lane’ is soon to be published by the History Press.
