Dan Whiteson (24 years old) and Burt Munro (79 years old) welcome the opportunity to share their work with the general public in the beautiful surrounds of Lauderdale House. In Painting Life, these two artists, from opposite ends of life, present paintings and drawings exploring the passing of time and the human experience in markedly different ways.
An unlikely friendship formed between the two artists over mutual interests; in particular an appreciation of the environmental influence of art, and over time the two began to inspire one another to develop their artistic careers. Munro uses his own memories from a lifetime’s work in the construction industry, both here and overseas, to create geometric, graphic landscapes laced with nostalgia and the warmth of personal experience. Whiteson presents a series of portraits of older people. Influenced strongly by Alice Neel's interest in representing those on the edges of society, he finds beauty, wisdom and inspiration in his sitters, and through listening to and recording their experiences and lives he attempts to give those that are seldom heard a voice.
