Alison McWhirter and Chris Taylor
Our forthcoming spring exhibition introduces new work by emerging artists Alison McWhirter and Chris Taylor. Providing a welcome splash of colour and vitality to help shake off the winter blues, this exhibition explores both artists’ consideration of process, colour and composition. While at first glance there is a traditional element to the work, a contemporary edge subtly entices the viewer to look further.
McWhirter’s studies of flowers are intimate compositions which evoke a mood through their vibrancy of colour and loose, bold brushwork. In contrast, ceramicist Chris Taylor has developed a range of detailed, highly decorative ceramics since completing an MA at the RCA in 2011. Complex layers of glaze adorn unassuming terracotta vessels.
This exhibition is an intriguing exploration of discord and balance, achieved by both artists through layering and constant reworking to create richness and sensitivity in their work.
