30-40 paintings of New York, LA and the desert.
Connections: America, Paul Smith Fashion, Art, Crimonoogy
Criminology professor, musician and painter John Tierney - a Briton - brings to London the blue skies, colour and light of his beloved America. There’s the cool brio of David Hockney and the enigma of Edward Hopper. As though dazzled but not fazed, Tierney’s paintings out-stare the urban and wilderness challenge.
In 2011 Tierney enjoyed success of his first exhibition in LA. with ‘American Light’ at the Paul Smith shop on Melrose. Paul Smith said “The first time I saw John Tierney’s work I was so impressed by his skill. I love the photorealist feel to his work and am really pleased to be able to show it at my shop, which in fact he has featured in a lot of his paintings!” . The leading fashion desginer liked John’s paintings of his renowned pink Hollywood store so much he turned one into a sell out silk scarf.
Like the world Tierney depicts, there’s noir, glamour and brilliance in these images from Los Angeles, New York and the desert. The Horsebox Gallery in partnership with The Osborne Gallery are delighted to present John’s first solo exhibition in Knightsbridge with a collection of over 35 paintings.
