Art exhibition exploring the contrasting nature of form and shadow

"Falls The Shadow" is the theme of the latest series of works by mosaic artist Catherine Parkinson. Exploring the relationship between form and shadow, the pieces evolved from experiments in combining mosaic with painted images. By combining the contrasting characteristics of the mosaic medium with watercolours, the resulting images uniquely reflect the solid state of the object and the fleeting characteristic of its shadow.

An ongoing collaboration with jeweller Melissa Hunt adds a further dimension to the exhibition. This is the first opportunity to view a collection of innovative pieces which combine mosaic and metals, as well as Melissa's own investigation into shadows and reflection.

Catherine Parkinson is an established mosaic artist whose work juxtaposes a rich variety of materials, texture and colour. She draws inspiration from closely observed and recorded patterns of nature, as well as the raw materials which range from old china and found fragments to stones and fossils.
