A Women in Film event presented by Dr Bernadette Casey

Lynne Ramsay’s follow-up to the acclaimed Ratcatcher (1999) stars Samantha Morton as a supermarket worker in a cold, wet, Scottish port, who comes home to find her boyfriend has committed suicide. Morvern’s response to this cataclysmic event has been described by Ramsay as ‘shocking, really punk rock’. The films haunting, subversive quality combines hedonism with dark humour along with a stupendous sound-track.
